Capsule Geology

The Road House showing is located between Sky Creek and its most significant northwest tributaries.

Three stratigraphic assemblages have been mapped in the area: (1) Upper Palaeozoic sediments and volcanics of the Stikine Assemblage, (2) clastic sediments of the Triassic Stuhini Group, and (3) Lower Jurassic sediments and volcanics of the Hazelton Group.

Four plutonic suites intrude the above; (1) Late Triassic calc-alkaline intrusions coeval with Stuhini Group stratigraphy, (2) Jurassic Copper Mtn, (3) Jurassic Texas Creek and (4) Tertiary Coast Plutonic suite. Metallogenically , Texas Creek potassium feldspar megacrystic porphyries are of primary interest as they are spatially associated with a number of gold deposits and showings in the area.

A 0.3 metre sample taken from the Road Showing assayed as high as 2493.0 grams per tonne gold (Skyline Exploration Ltd., Press Release, June 15, 1988). The Road showing vein consists of pyrite-quartz-chalcopyrite and chlorite hosted by a biotite-rich foliated metasediment. Free gold was reported to occur in the quartz (George Cross Newsletter #125, June 29, 1988).

The showing is a massive pyrite and chalcopyrite vein in wackes. One trench (1989) encountered well distributed gold values of 20.91 grams per tonne gold across an average 0.5 m width over a 50 metre strike length (Assessment Report 29673). Fourteen holes were drilled in 1988 (1122 metres). No mineralization was encountered. Attitude of vein was thought to have been misread. Showing was relocated in 2006 but no sampling undertaken.

Skyline completed large geochemical, geophysical and prospecting programs during 1988, 1989 and 1990 between the mine and the northern and northeastern portion of its Reg claims. These programs resulted in reconnaissance diamond drilling of numerous promising gold targets as well as drilling of the Road Show gold vein in 1988, the Bronson Slope copper-gold porphyry target in 1988 (just north of the Iskut Property) and the C-3 shear-hosted gold prospect in 1990.
